Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about private household staffing, our process, and what to expect when working with Atworth.

Getting Started

How do I begin the household staffing process?

Schedule a complimentary discovery call with our team. During this conversation, we’ll learn about your household, priorities, and the role you’re looking to fill. From there, we determine alignment and next steps. There is no obligation.

Most placements are completed within 4-8 weeks from initial consultation to start date. Complex searches or highly specialized positions may take longer. We prioritize finding the right fit over speed, but we can accommodate urgent needs when necessary.

Yes. Atworth is headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee and provides Private Placement services nationwide for estate managers, house managers, and other long-term household roles.

Our Flex Support and Nanny Connect services are available to households in Middle Tennessee.

Service availability varies by model, and each engagement is thoughtfully evaluated to ensure the highest level of compliance, structure, and personalized support.

Costs & Fees

How much does household staffing cost?

Atworth offers three service options based on your needs: Private Placement, Flex Support, and Nanny Connect. Nanny Connect is a flat fee, while Private Placement and Flex Support are custom quoted based on role complexity and level of support. We walk you through options during your consultation.

We stand behind the quality of our placements. If a placement does not work out within the first 3–6 months (depending on the role and service selected), Atworth will support a replacement search in accordance with the terms of your agreement. Our focus is on long-term alignment, clear expectations, and a smooth transition to ensure lasting success for both families and candidates.

Yes. Each service model includes a structured onboarding deposit.

For Private Placement, a $1,500 non-refundable deposit is required to initiate the search. This deposit is applied toward the final placement fee, which is calculated as a percentage of the candidate’s annual salary.

For Atworth Flex, a $500 onboarding deposit is required to begin placement and scheduling.

For Nanny Connect, the $3,500 flat placement fee is due at the start of the search.

This structure allows us to dedicate the time, resources, and attention required to deliver a focused and personalized placement process.

The Process

How many candidates will you present for a household staffing search?

We typically present 4–6 highly qualified candidates. We prioritize quality over quantity, carefully vetting each candidate before introducing them to you.

Absolutely. We coordinate in-person interviews with your top candidates and can arrange trial days or working interviews to help you make a confident decision.
All candidates undergo comprehensive criminal background checks, reference verification with previous employers, and skills assessments specific to their position. For certain roles, we also verify certifications, credentials, and driving records.

An estate manager provides higher-level oversight across multiple properties, staff, and operations, while a house manager typically focuses on the day-to-day running of a single household. We help determine the right role based on your needs.

Employment & Logistics

Will household staff be my employee or employed by Atworth?

Employment structure depends on the service selected.

With Private Placement, the staff member is your employee. You manage payroll and taxes, and we provide guidance.

With Flex Support, staff are W-2 employees of Atworth. We manage payroll, taxes, and compliance.

With Nanny Connect, families hire and employ the candidate directly.

We guide you through the best structure for your needs.

Yes, we provide employment agreement templates and guidance to help you formalize the relationship professionally. We recommend having contracts reviewed by an employment attorney.

Payroll responsibilities vary by service.

For Private Placement and Nanny Connect, you are the employer and responsible for payroll taxes, workers’ compensation, and other employment obligations. We can recommend trusted household payroll providers who specialize in domestic employment and guide you on best practices.

For Atworth Flex, team members are W-2 employees of Atworth. We manage payroll, taxes, and benefits on your behalf, providing a fully managed solution.

Ongoing Support

Do you provide support after a household staffing placement?

Our support continues after placement. We remain available for check-ins, transitions, and guidance to ensure long-term success.

We’re here to help. Contact us immediately if concerns arise, and we’ll work with both you and the staff member to address the situation. During the guarantee period, we can facilitate a replacement if needed.
Of course! Many of our clients work with us for multiple placements over the years as their household needs evolve. We already know your family and can facilitate future searches efficiently.
